I’m writing this from Zermatt, Switzerland, where I’ve been diving into the world of skiing for the first time. The peak season here runs from Christmas to New Year’s, but the snow season continues through April. Whether you’re a seasoned skier, a winter enthusiast, or someone who simply loves the magic of snowy landscapes, I’ve put together a short guide of tips and discoveries for your next winter getaway.

For first-time skiers like me, don’t be intimidated! Skiing is for all ages, and booking a lesson is a smart (and ego-friendly) move. Take the leap, properly stretch, stay safe, and listen to your body—it’s all part of the adventure.

After spending so much time researching how to prep for skiing, I’ve mastered the art of curating the perfect ski trip wardrobe—and I’m excited to now offer ski styling as a specialty service.  Additionally, I’ve put together a winter athleisure guide featuring some of my personal favorites, designed to keep you cozy and chic all season long.

A little inspiration and style tips for your next winter getaway:

Style Tip 1: Let’s be real—unless you’re heading to St. Moritz for a whirlwind of private parties, fine dining, and wining, you can leave the stilettos at home. In a ski town, cozy and comfortable is the vibe. Here’s the breakdown: Pack one or two semi-dressy sweater dresses that pair perfectly with chic shearling-lined boots. Overdressing? Not the move. Mornings call for a stylish knit set, and if you’re hitting the slopes, proper athleisure with plenty of layers is essential. By mid-afternoon, you’ll likely be at the spa (don’t forget your swimsuit!), and by evening, trust me—everyone’s keeping it casual. Think easy, relaxed pieces you can shed the moment you step through the door.

Style Tip 2: Don’t overpack—you’ll likely end up wearing the same pieces on repeat. Trust me!

Style Tip 3: Out in the snow, everyone tends to look the same. Instead of an all-black ensemble, try incorporating some color into your outfit. If bold, flamboyant pieces aren’t your style, at least consider a colorful BUFF neck warmer. They’re affordable, so you can grab a few in different colors to switch up your look. Plus, it makes it easier for friends and family to spot you on the slopes!

Style Tip 4: Always read the product details carefully when shopping for winter gear. Avoid synthetic puffer jackets and opt for ones made with at least 80-90% down feathers to ensure proper warmth without needing excessive layering. If you’re skiing, not all puffer jackets are practical. Look for one with multiple interior pockets, including at least one zippered compartment to safely store your ski pass. Ample pockets are a must since most resort skiers don’t carry backpacks, making it essential to have space for your on-the-go essentials.

Style Tip 5: Thermal onesies may be all over the internet and look fashionable, but trust me, they’re not functional! Every time you need to use the bathroom, you’ll have to strip down completely—which is far from ideal, especially if you’re not in the comfort of your hotel. They photograph well but, in reality, are highly impractical.

Style Tip 6: Keep your skin hydrated! Spray your face with toner twice daily, drink at least 2 liters of water, and use an ultra-hydrating moisturizer. For an extra boost, pack a couple of overnight masks for deep hydration—my personal favorite for combating the dryness is this biodance.

Style Tip 7: Fur is one of the warmest materials you can wear in freezing temperatures. If you prefer to avoid buying new fur, consider visiting local thrift or consignment shops to source vintage pieces—they’re often more affordable and sustainable. I personally own a vintage cream shearling coat from the ’80s, and it’s been a lifesaver in the cold. With just a long-sleeve fleece and earmuffs layered underneath, I’m perfectly cozy and ready to go! If you do end up buying new fur, it's okay—it will most likely become a family heirloom that you’ll pass down to your kids, so it's worth the investment just make sure the fur is ethically sourced from a reputable brand.

Style Tip 8: Layering is the key to staying comfortable. Opt for layers that can be easily removed if the day warms up or added if you get chilly. Merino wool or cashmere are always excellent choices for warmth and softness. Keep your outfit’s foundation simple—think leggings or sweat sets—and add personality with playful accessories like earmuffs, gloves, or fury crossbody bags. A statement balaclava, chic vest, and bold sunglasses can give your look a stylish edge. For all-out glamour, nothing says luxury like a chic monochromatic outfit.
